9 years ago on Memorial day Weekend, I grabbed a camera my brother wanted to sell. Raised in a time were you didn't have digital feedback immediately on your image, or enough money to develop ALL those rolls of filn you would take....There was a photographer inside me...
She's had a very crazy interesting life-anything but "Ordinary". Born and raised in Northern Minnesota, I grew up without the internet or social media. The first sign I was a photographer? Coming home from summer camp with 8 undeveloped rolls of film. My mom would shake her head-"How are we going to develop all these? What do you even take pictures of?" I wanted to remember. I wanted the details. I wanted to capture what my eyes saw. I didn't understand the why, I just understood the fire inside...I had to tell the story...
I went to college at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. I dabbled in the fine arts department and learned about developing film and more about using manual settings. Easy A in hand, I pressed on. I graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor's Degree.
First job out of college was ironically a Sears Portrait Studio Manager, hired on the spot, and enjoyed my days there-while looking for that "College" job. I also wanted the picture perfect wedding, and husband and family and home. I got them all only to realize quickly life had other plans for me. I struggled. Nothing felt right.
Newly divorced and a single mom, I found the College Job in a tiny town in Northern Wisconsin, I moved to the Hurley/Ironwood Area in 1997.
I did it all again, married the boy next door and even went back to school for more credentials for teaching. The summer school at Hurley 10 years ago, I taught Photography. I loved taking pictures ALL. THE. TIME. I kept scrapbook stores in business for years....I received my Early Educational Needs certification in 2006 from St Mary's University of Minnesota. My kids were all school age and I felt I could focus on working finally.
Then in 2009, I got sick. Really sick. I had left the full time job which had me feeling disenchanted and a bit traumatized if I'm being honest. I gained weight after an emergency surgery, and I gotta say I was at the lowest point of my life. I nearly died in more ways than one. So on a family camping trip, I grabbed his camera. He showed me some settings. I bought it. I used it to take pictures of a senior in the summer of 2010 for $50. The rest is history. I never ever knew what was about to happen....I am still surprised!
I have enjoyed success for 8 years, full time. I've been all over the place, shooting weddings internationally and across the US. I have been published, put on a billboard, stood in front of the best photographers in the country and let them teach me, I don't know why or how some days, and I am still always learning.
I live in Montreal, WI in a 115 year old classic mining home. I have 3 amazing children, and a sweet handsome Grandson. I have alot of love in my life and while I'm by no means a wealthy rockstar, I am rich in experience and in vision. Creatively, I am ever evolving, and I promise to give you my heart's work, my mind's eye and my loyalty to do the job you need me to do-capturing the best moments of your life!
I am again a single mom, and supporting my kids in various ways in a small town has it's challenges. I am looking outside the box all the time-and enjoying every day I open my eyes.
Thank you for choosing me, I'm surprisingly human after all, with a really great love for photography. I believe all my life experiences and education were no accident, this is who I'm meant to be.
Let me show you what I can do-Your Image, My Vision
